Mormons have spend a signficant amount of time and money making sure that certain "alternative forms of marriage" never become legal and therefore never pose a threat to "decent society". In the case of Proposition-8, the Mormon religion has garnered its resources against "Gay Marriage" because Mormons believe that "Gay Marriage" poses a serious threat to "Family". And, everybody knows that "Family" is the keystone of the Mormon culture. But, doesn't this expose the complete hypocrisy and duplicitous nature of the Mormon religion and its culture, because after all isn't polygamy also an "alternative form of marriage"? So, what gives the Mormon religion the authority to deem "Gay Marriage" a threat to society, but yet leaves "Mormon Polygamy" untouched in their righteous quest to dictate cultural norms in America?

In one of the most suprising of ironies of all, today the Mormons of Utah deny any connection at all to polygamy in America, even though they are the ones who began polygamy in America in the 1830s. And, even though there are tens of thousands of polygamists living in Utah today, Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff has said on many occasions that he won't prosecute polygamy in Utah (Utah AG won't prosecute polygamists). In fact, he's even acknowledged there aren't enough prison beds in Utah to accomodate all of the polygamists in Utah even if they were arrested. Attorney General Shurtleff is so un-concerned about polygamy in Utah that he's even going to speak at the Mormon Polygamy Conference in Park City, Utah in September to provide insights on how Mormon polygamists in Utah can best skirt Federal polygmy laws. And, this doesn't even begin to account for all of the other polygamists in Arizona, California, Nevada, Idaho, Colorado, Texas, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Sonora Mexico and other locations. I guess it also shouldn't come as too much of a suprise to learn that Mark Shurtleff's ancestors were polygamists.

Perhaps the theory is that if the Mormons put all the pressure on the non-Mormons who are practicing "alternative forms of marriage" in America, everyone will forget about the Mormons and their polygamy. Regardless of what the Morons are trying to accomplish, they've proven once again that they represent the worst kind of pious hypocrisy in America. The Mormons believe its OK to use their resources to violate the rights of others who don't agree with their beliefs, but are always the first to decry religious persecution, imagined or real, when others stand up and decry the hypocrisy of the Mormons. But, that's what you get when people who are brought up believing that they are "man-Gods" who have the god-given right to dictate to others. There are very few non-Mormon American alive today who know that Mormons believe their own "holey" Melchizedek Priesthood gives them the right to violate "Man's Laws" and the "Laws of Moses". And, I doubt many Americans know that Mormons still practice their religious form of polygamous marriage (celestial marriage) in Mormon temples today, that there are political activists lobbying for the legalization of polygamy in Utah today (Anne Wilde & Principle Voices) or that the Utah Government simply turns a "blind eye" to polygamy in Utah (and elsewhere).

Today, the United Nations recognizes polygamy as a human rights violation that subjugates and enslaves women. Perhaps if the Mormons were really such patriotic Americans, like they so publically like to claim, they would spend at least the same amount of resources trying to stamp out polygamy in America (which they started in the first place) that they spend on repressing the rights of othes. After all, the Mormon religion did agree to stop the practice of polygamy in the late 1800's.

The video below provides a fascinating insight into Mormon culture, during a Mormon religious service no less, and shows a Mormon bishop unilaterally eliminating the abilty of a proponent of Proposition-8 to freely discuss his views on Proposition-8 (even though the Mormon religion claims to believe in something they refer to as "free agency").
