For whatever reason, Mike Leach committed professional sucide and abruptly truncated his coaching career at Texas Tech. First, he prolonged his contract negotiations for months before signing his new 5-year $12.7 million dollar contract extension with TexasTech. Leach was even so lackadaisical about things that on February 14th of this year, Texas Tech finally had to issue an ultimatum to the “pirate” Leach saying, “Accept the terms of the school's contract extension offer by Tuesday or face the consequences”. This message was a counter-response Leach's previous proposal, which Texas Tech officials referred to as:
“…simply an offer for us to guarantee that Coach Leach could never be fired," athletic director Gerald Myers said in a statement. "It would cost us a maximum of $4.4 MILLION if we wanted to change coaches in the first year. It would cost Texas Tech millions in subsequent years of his five-year contract”.
On February 19th, during a phone interview, Leach was asked if he was worried about being fired, and he responded:
“Not really, we have an agreement both parties signed. We agreed to do two more years, and I don't see how that could be unsatisfactory to anybody. Why anybody would have a problem with two years left on my contract, I don't know."
Unbenownst to most people, Leach has a law degree. That, and the fact that he has the Melchizek priesthood, which makes him a "Man-god" (in his own mind), obviously only bolstered Leach's bad attitude. It seems obvious that even prior to the "Adam James Incident", Leach's poor judgement, his antagonistic attitude and acrimonious contract negotiations had already left a sour taste in Texas Tech's mouth. Then, if you compound that with essentially abusing someone who is a young adult, its no wonder the bottom fell out for Leach. Leach allegedly forced Adam James to stand for hours in rooms with no lights or furniture, as a means of dealing with a concussion. Say, what? Is this what Leach would have proposed for his own children had they received head injuries or concussions? I think not. So, would Leach force this ridiculous punishment on somebody else's kids? At worst, this is an act of complete megalomania. Even if you choose to say this was done in innocence, it’s still grossly stupid, seems abusive and shows a complete lack of respect or common sense. With Leach having a background in law, you think he would have known better. Regardless, wouldn’t it be nice to see a person who holds such an important position to show some grace, compassion and respect. Leach has shown none of these qualities.
I don’t think its hard to see why Texas Tech finally came to the conclusion that it HAD to cut its losses. Clearly, the presence of Leach created a potential liability to the University that amounted to much more than his existing contract amounted to. Again, Leach even had a law degree, so he should have been more cognizant of his own actions. For whatever reason, Leach just didn’t seem to care (kind of like how a "Man-god" would act). Anyway, as Forrest Gump would say, “Stupid is as stupid does”. So, much for being a "Man-god".
Amazingly enough, the manner in which Leach was ultimately was terminated is not entirety unfamiliar to the Mormon cult. Remember "The Kevin Rutledge Scandal" at Arizona State University (or as the Mormons call it, BYU South)? Lef me refresh your memory. In September 1979, former Sun Devil punter Kevin Rutledge filed a $1.1 million lawsuit against the ASU, accusing Kush and his staff of mental and physical harassment, which forced him to transfer. The most dramatic charge Rutledge made was that Kush had punched him in the mouth after a bad punt in the October 28, 1978 game against the University of Washington. But, hold everything! Unbeknownst to virtually everyone, Rutledge was a Mormon and Arizona just happens to have the second highest concentration of Mormons outside of the Mormon Curtain (Utah). Further, at the time Arizona State had a perennial "top-10" team, continually beat BYU, continually won the recruitng war for top Mormon athletes over BYU and both Arizona State and Arizona dominated the WAC, much to the Mormons' and BYU's chagrin. So, just as the Mormons did when they orchestrated the Mountain Meadows Massacre and Watergate, and because BYU and the Mormons don't "play by gentile rules", the Mormons hatched an elaborate plot to strategically sabotage ASU's football program and get rid of Kush. As a result of what happened and in order to distance themselves from the corrupt Mormon religion, both Arizona and Arizona State left the WAC in 1978 to join the PAC-10. Ironically, just after this happened, Kevin Rutlege's parents house, in Gilbert, mysteriously burned to the ground. And, today the Mormons continue in their efforts to make ASU into their "BYUSouth". Ira Fulton, a prominent Mormon who likes to tell anybody who will listen that he can trace his lineage directly back to Julius Caeser, has essentially "bought" ASU by purchasing the naming rights to most of the colleges comprising the State University, that was until Fulton went backrupt in 2009. I wonder if ASU is still getting any money.
Watch dynamic action-packed movie that pits the abusive "Man-god" Leach against his arch-nemesis Adam James:
Read as ex-coach Leach whines about "unholy alliances", "power" and "control". Perhaps this Mormon "Man-god" is really just providing everyone an insight into his own whacky "Mormon" view of how the world works.
